A few posts ago, we talked about the world of Magnamund, a fantasy world
I got to know from the Lone Wolf gamebook series. Flight From The Dark is the
first book in the series. In its introduction, we learn that Sommerlund's
eternal enemies have attacked and exterminated all the Kai Lords, the country's
elite warriors. All but one, the Lone Wolf. He vows revenge on the ruins of the
Monastery and sets out to bring the news to the King. Unfortunately, the
journey is not easy, and enemy troops have advanced and besieged the capital.
As if that's not enough, there are wild animals, common thugs and other beings
who are evil without serving the Darklords.
The reader assumes the role of the Lone Wolf; as the story unfolds, the
reader must make decisions about the hero's movements, which direction he will
take, what he will do in each situation, and which discipline he will use. For
example, when will he fight, and when will he try to escape if this is
possible.
Of course, each decision has different consequences and leads you down
different paths. At the same time, there are moments when you are lucky or not,
which creates the possibility of a different adventure every time one plays. If
this runs out quickly? Let me say that after thirty-six years, I enjoy the adventures
of Lone Wolf as much as I did when I first discovered them.
